frij (“frij,” “we,” “us”) helps you track groceries and reduce food waste. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. By using the frij mobile app or website (the “Service”), you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

Account information

When you sign up — with email, Apple, or Google — we receive your email address and a basic profile identifier so we can create and secure your account. If you sign in with Google, we only request your basic profile and email; we do not request access to Gmail, Drive, contacts, or any other Google service.

Content you provide

• Photos of grocery receipts you choose to scan.
• Food items, quantities, storage locations, purchase dates, and expiry estimates (including your edits).
• Household names and invite codes you create or join.
• Consumption actions you log (consumed, snoozed, tossed).

Technical information

• A push-notification token (if you enable notifications) so we can send reminders.
• Device and app diagnostics, and error reports, used to keep the Service working.

2. How we use your information

• To extract items from your receipts and estimate when food will spoil.
• To send reminders and, within a household you join, to escalate reminders to other members.
• To provide waste statistics, weekly digests, and rescue-recipe suggestions.
• To operate, secure, and improve the Service and to provide support.
• To process subscriptions and enforce plan limits.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data for advertising.

3. How we share information

We share data only with service providers that operate the app on our behalf, under contracts that limit their use of it:

• Supabase — authentication, database, and receipt image storage.
• Google (Gemini API) — to read your receipt images and extract food items. Images and extracted text are processed to provide this feature.
• Expo — delivery of push notifications.
• RevenueCat — subscription management.
• Resend — transactional and reminder emails.
• Sentry — error monitoring.

Within a household, other members can see the shared pantry items, expiry estimates, and related activity. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users.

4. Google user data

frij’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use Google sign-in solely to authenticate you. We do not transfer or use Google user data for serving ads, and we do not allow humans to read this data unless you ask us to for support, it is required for security, or the law requires it.

5. Data retention

We keep your account and content while your account is active. Receipt images are retained only as long as needed to extract and let you review items, and you can delete items at any time. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we must retain limited records for legal or security reasons.

6. Your choices and rights

• Access, correct, or delete your data from within the app or by contacting us.
• Turn notifications on or off in your device settings.
• Delete your account, which removes your personal data as described above.
• Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (e.g., under GDPR or CCPA). Contact us to exercise them.

7. Security

We use encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your information.

8. Children

frij is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data.

9. International users

Your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. We rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated in-app.
